Check out this video, "Where I'm From". You aren't supposed to be able to hear the beginning. Listen to the poem and think about where you are from.

After watching the "Where I'm From" video , answer the following prompt:
- What is one specific memory you have from childhood?
- Include at least one specific image and one specific smell?
- How does this memory make you feel?
Remember to use the Discussion Post Guidelines discussed in class to help you in your response to your classmates:
- Present a new question for discussion to broaden, refine or redirect the conversation.
- Discuss a personal experience that (i.e. memory, interaction, person, class, book, etc.) that has influenced your perception of a given topic. Provide specific details about where your ideas, beliefs, opinions, etc. come from to support your statements.
- Think outside the box or play devil's advocate (respectfully, of course). Providing another point of view on a topic being discussed can be both interesting and enlightening, effectively sparking further discussion.
- Ask your peers for clarification on ideas that you do not clearly understand. Your peers are your best resources.
- Make connections between the discussions taking place in the classroom forum to information learned in other classes and subject areas. Connecting what you are learning to past knowledge or experiences will strengthen your retention of that information.
- Share a resource that you have used that has been helpful for you. Use the attachment feature to share images, documents, and videos that will addd to the conversation.
- Summarize the main ideas being discussed or presented in your own words to ensure you have a strong grasp of the central concepts. This will support your peers learning as well.
- Comment thoughtfully and respectfully on the ideas, experiences, and questions presented by your peers. The more you engage with your peers, the more meaningful the conversations will be for everyone involved.

Module 4 Reflection
Think about how the Internet has impacted your own personal learning, communication, and sense of community. Write a new post that includes a screenshot showing your participation in a social or professional network, and a summary of how you use that network for personal or professional connections or for new learning. In this written assignment reflect on:
How has it distracted: I honestly do not think that the internet is a distraction from good learning. Yes, it sometimes allows myself or students to go places that are not planned, but I personally feel like that is a welcome distraction. The fact that students have their own devices to access the internet can definitely be a distraction but if taught proper etiquette, it is a welcomed resource.
Student Answer: From my experience, I have found that students find it very frustrating if they are not allowed their own access to the internet. Since I do not fight against this, I find that their answers to this question do not diverge from mine. In fact I am surprised to hear many students vote in favor of more restriction.
Support Students: I support students in using the internet as their own learning space completely. For example, I have had students who could not keep up with a paper sprial notebook for study purposes but could readily google any and all necessary study info quickly and easily. At first I resisted this non-conformist behavior but it was obviously working for them and so I allowed it. Finally, I’m glad I did because what resulted was a student that could confidently find (and study) the necessary information quickly and easily. I suppose this might not work for all classes but in a history class it most definitely did.
My Social Networks: One example of how I use social networks professionally is the schools facebook presence. I primarily use facebook with students to remind and respond to time sensitive stuff. For example, I will use facebook to remind students of an upcoming college deadline and I can include links to my own teaching as well as external links. I also use it to respond to students who find themselves in sudden need of some missed piece of information or resource, such as the link to their Mesa transcripts.
- When does the Internet help your learning? When does it distract from good learning for you?
- How might your answers to these questions be similar to or different from the answers your students might give?
- How might you support your students in using the Internet as their own personal learning space?
